• 今日、私たちは王であるイエスの祝日を祝います。この祝日をもって典礼年は終わり、次の日曜日からは待降節第1主日に入ります。この王であるイエスの祝日には何を祝うのでしょうか？この問いに答えるために、私たちは一つのことに注目します。誰かが自分自身についておっしゃるとき、その言葉を通して私たちはその人を知ることができます。例えば、誰かが「私はこの人をこの罪で有罪とし、懲役1年を宣告する」と言ったとする。この人は裁判官のふりをしていると言えます。イエス様の言葉についてはどうでしょうか。今日の福音書では、イエス様が自分自身について「王である」とおっしゃっておられる。
• そして、福音書にあるイエス様の言葉すべてに耳を傾けるなら、イエス様は本当に唯一にして決定的な宇宙の王であると言うことができます。なぜなら、彼は自らを神様の座に置いているからです。つまり、イエス様はその言葉によって、自分自身が唯一にして決定的な宇宙の王であると言っているのです。そしてそれは、私たちに重要なことを教えてくれます。少し前に、神道の家庭に育った日本人女性がアメリカに留学し、そこでクリスチャンの家族と一緒に暮らしたという証しを見たことがあります。彼女は最終的にキリスト教に改宗し、洗礼を受けました。そしてこの女性は、改宗について語るとき、「そして私はイエス様を救い主として、私の唯一の救い主として受け入れました」と言いました。つまり、他の救世主の中の救世主ではありません。他の神々の中の神でもありません。唯一の救い主である神なのです。
• こう言うと、2つの考えが浮かぶかもしれません。日本にもあると思うが、これらの考えはヨーロッパとアメリカに非常に多く存在します。一つ目は、「イエス様が神様であり、唯一の神様であると言うなら、それを信じないすべての人に対する侮辱ではないか」、二つ目は、「イエス様が唯一の神様であると言うことは、歴史上多くの戦争の原因となってきました。そして、それは将来私たちに何一つ良いことをもたらさないでしょう。」
• 私たちはどう対応すればいいのか？おそらく私自身の証で答えることができるでしょう。私にはイスラム教徒や無神論者の友人がいます。そして今、学校では仏教徒の友人を作っています。彼ら全員と、私は神様について、イエス・キリストについて、心の奥底にある願望や切望について話すことができました。最も親しい友人たちとも、私は祈ることができました。そしてそれはいつも、他の宗教の伝統や他の信者の心をよりよく知ることができます、とても豊かな会話でした。また、イエス・キリストをより深く知ることもできました。
• 愛を持って行われるなら、宗教間対話は決して違反にはならないし、暴力や戦争の種にもなりません。だからこそ今日、私たちはイエス様が唯一にして決定的な王であることを認め、私たちの唯一にして決定的な救い主であることを感謝するのです。

1 – Hoy celebramos la fiesta de Jesús Rey del Universo. Con esta fiesta terminamos el año litúrgico y el próximo domingo comenzaremos el primer domingo de adviento. ¿Qué celebramos en esta fiesta de Jesús Rey del Universo? Para responder a esta pregunta nos vemos a fijar en una cosa. Cuando alguien habla de sí mismo, a través de sus palabras nos permite conocerle. Por ejemplo, si alguien dijese: “Declaro a esta persona culpable de este delito y la condeno a un año de prisión”. Podríamos decir que esa persona pretende ser un juez. Quizá lo sea o quizá no lo sea, pero pretende serlo con las palabras que dice. ¿Y qué podemos decir de las palabras de Jesús? Hoy en el Evangelio escuchamos a Jesús decir de sí mismo que es Rey.

2 – Y si escuchamos todas las palabras de Jesús que hay en los Evangelios podríamos decir que Jesús, realmente, es el único y definitivo Rey del Universo. Porque se coloca a sí mismo en el lugar de Dios. Por eso podemos decir que, con sus palabras, Jesús dice de sí mismo que es el único y definitivo rey del Universo. Y eso nos lleva a algo importante. Hace tiempo vi un testimonio de una mujer japonesa que había crecido en una familia sintoísta y fue a estudiar a Estados Unidos y allí vivió con una familia cristiana. Finalmente acabó convirtiéndose al cristianismo y bautizándose. Y esta mujer, cuando hablaba de su conversión decía: “Y acepté a Jesús como mi Salvador y mi único Salvador”. Es decir, no un salvador entre otros salvadores. No un Dios entre otros dioses. Sino el único Dios salvador.

3 – Y cuando decimos esto, es posible que dos pensamientos vengan a nuestra mente. Estos pensamientos están muy presentes en Europa y América, aunque creo que también están presentes en Japón. El primero de ellos es: “Si dices que Jesús es Dios y el único Dios entonces, ¿no supone eso una ofensa para todos aquellos que no lo creen?” Y el segundo pensamiento es: “Decir que Jesús es el único Dios ha sido la causa de muchas guerras en la historia. Y no nos traerá nada bueno en el futuro”.

4 – ¿Cómo podemos responder? Quizá yo pueda responder con mi propio testimonio. Yo tengo amigos musulmanes y ateos. Y ahora en la escuela estoy haciendo amistad con personas budistas. Con todos ellos he podido hablar de Dios, hablar de Jesucristo, de los deseos y los anhelos más profundos del corazón. Incluso con aquellos que son más amigos, he podido rezar. Y siempre fue una conversación muy enriquecedora que me permitió conocer mejor otras tradiciones religiosas y el corazón de otros creyentes. Y que también me permitió dar a conocer más a Jesucristo.

5 – Si se hace con amor, el diálogo interreligioso nunca será una ofensa ni será un germen de violencia y de guerra. Por eso hoy reconocemos a Jesús como el único y definitivo Rey del Universo y le damos gracias por ser nuestro único y definitivo Salvador.

1 – Today we celebrate the feast of Jesus King of the Universe. With this feast we end the liturgical year and next Sunday we will begin the first Sunday of Advent. What do we celebrate on this feast of Jesus King of the Universe? To answer this question we will look at one thing. When someone speaks about himself, through his words he allows us to get to know him. For example, if someone were to say: ‘I find this person guilty of this crime and sentence him to one year’s imprisonment’. We could say that this person pretends to be a judge. Maybe he is or maybe he is not, but he is pretending to be a judge by the words he says. And what can we say about the words of Jesus? Today in the Gospel we hear Jesus say of himself that he is King.

2 – And if we listen to all the words of Jesus in the Gospels we could say that Jesus really is the only and definitive King of the Universe. Because he puts himself in the place of God. So we can say that, with his words, Jesus says of himself that he is the only and definitive King of the Universe. And that brings us to something important. Some time ago I saw a testimony of a Japanese woman who had grown up in a Shinto family and went to study in the United States and lived with a Christian family there. She eventually converted to Christianity and was baptised. And this woman, when she talked about her conversion, she said: ‘And I accepted Jesus as my Saviour and my only Saviour’. In other words, not a saviour among other saviours. Not a God among other gods. But the only Saviour God.

3 – And when we say this, two thoughts may come to mind. These thoughts are very much present in Europe and America, although I believe they are also present in Japan. The first one is: ‘If you say that Jesus is God and the only God then isn’t that an offence to all those who don’t believe it?’ And the second thought is: ‘Saying that Jesus is the only God has been the cause of many wars in history. And it will not bring us any good in the future.’

4 – How can we respond? Perhaps I can respond with my own testimony. I have Muslim and atheist friends. And now at school I am making friends with Buddhists. With all of them I have been able to talk about God, to talk about Jesus Christ, about the deepest desires and longings of the heart. Even with those who are my closest friends, I have been able to pray. And it was always a very enriching conversation that allowed me to get to know better other religious traditions and the hearts of other believers. It also allowed me to get to know Jesus Christ better.

5 – If it is done with love, interreligious dialogue will never be an offence, nor will it be a seed of violence and war. That is why today we recognise Jesus as the only and definitive King of the Universe and we thank him for being our only and definitive Saviour.
